Glutamine - Prologue

Most of my adult life, I've been dealing with evolving sets of nebulous symptoms and malladies of one sort or another. For instance, I've been 'diagnosed' with Epstein Barr Syndrome (ie. Chronic Fatigue) and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Basically these are a none-of-the-above diagnosis that doctors give you when they rule out everything else and essentially just don't know.

I have become pretty resigned to an ebb and flow where I often have days where it's hard to concentrate, do much physically or even get out of bed sometimes. I call these 'throwaway days'. I wonder about my immune system, since I have had both pneumonia and full-blown mononucleosis twice! (I didn't think you could have that twice!) I guess that's what I get for not being breast-fed..

Meanwhile, to those in the know, I am a walking methane emitter. We have cans of air freshener installed in every room of the house like fire extinguishers. My intestinal dysfunction extends way beyond just farting, but I'll spare you all the gory details. Let's just say that I oscillate between both ends of the regularity spectrum, with some unique excretory anomalies along the way. You might call me a performance artist, with the porcelain bowl being my canvas.

After years of seeking the advice of medical and holistic professionals, I've mostly given up and resigned myself to this existence. I've taken OTC, prescription and holistic remedies before, as well as made significant changes in diet and exercise, with no results that I could really call 'breakthrough'.

But a fairy godmother sent me this bottle of Glutamine this week. So I thought I'd document the experience and review it as a product. Let's see if I actually notice anything different after a week of daily use, shall we?
